Final Year Project Open Day

About me:
Ivan Hofsajer

Thursday afternoon was filled with bustle as the School's annual project open day went into high gear. The project open day takes place each year and is a platform where final year students display their projects to the Wits community, industry and the public.

Each group of two students spend six weeks on an engineering project. They take ownership of the project and with minimal input from lecturers manage their project from start to finish, demonstrating their engineering skills. This project is the culmination of everything the students have done and learnt since they enrolled for engineering and their final examination before graduating.

This year 72 students in 36 groups put on a very good display- entertaining, amusing and amazing the onlookers. The projects reflected the full range of the activities that the School engages in, ranging from alternative energy solutions and high voltage through to innovative IT and telecommunication developments.

With the open day over the students now enter the final examination phase documenting the project and defending their work to external examiners.
